What to do before an appointment

  • Identify exactly the ingredients of any meal/snack that you think has caused a reaction.

  • Bring the incriminating food along to the clinic.  For example if you ate a dessert from a supermarket please bring a fresh one along in its packaging.  If you think you reacted to a certain fruit please bring a fresh one along.  I have commercial skin testing solutions to many allergens but in certain situations it is preferable to use fresh foods.

  • Please remember to bring any photographs of your reaction with you to your appointment.

  • Do not take antihistamines for 3 days prior to the appointment.  They affect the skin testing.  Examples are Cetirizine, loratadine, chlorphenamine (or piriton), promethazine, fexofenadine, prochlorperazine, acrivastine (Benadryl).  If this is difficult please call me prior to your appointment to discuss.

  • Bring a list of your current medication, if any, along to the appointment.

  • Do not use moisturizing creams or oils on your arms on the day of the appointment.
